Fourth of July

My 4th of July tradition for the last few years has been to go to South Street Seaport. I walk around, buy things from the outside vendors, go into the Seaport Mall, admire the ships: my favorite is named Peking and I pretend I’m going on that ship, on that journey. I observe the people because a Seaport has many people of many nations. This year I won’t follow that tradition because my Seaport is being renovated. The vendors are gone, the mall is closed. It’s an empty wasteland, except for my mighty ship, The Peking. It’s sails are at full mast, calling me…
